Australian Corvette Caravan

GM Proving Ground Lang Lang Victoria Hi Corvetters,

In 2003 a group of 26 from South Australia, Northern Territory, Victoria and Queensland traveled to the US and joined the Southern California Caravan for the trip across the US.

We have been planning our next invasion for the 2009 National Corvette Caravan since late '06 and are making it a little bit different this time. The proposed outline for our trip is to arrive on the east coast of the U.S. in late August. We can be tourists and get over jet lag for a couple of days while seeing the sights of New York before heading to Pennsylvania for Corvettes at Carlisle.

After Carlisle we will join the N.E. Caravan and convoy to Bowling Green to celebrate the 15th Anniversary and Grand Re-opening of the National Corvette Museum.

Can you do too much Corvette Stuff? I am hoping to prove the answer is no.

Our official travel agent is Jetset Ashburton and together we have put together a package tour to make the most of the events in the US at this time. You are not required to take this package to be a part of the Aussie Caravan but the package will provide excellent value.

We will be also looking into taking our Vettes over to the U.S. to drive them in the Caravan and are looking for sponsors to help us with this task as well as raise funds for the Museum.

Who's who?

Right Hand Drive 1968 427 Convertible Captain James Pierce. (That's me over there with my shirt off) I led the 2003 Australian Caravan and have signed on again for the 2009 Caravan.

I have been a Corvette enthusiast since my teens and in the early 80's I purchased my one and only Vette, a green 1968 427 convertible basket case. After converting to Right Hand Drive and restoring the Vette I have driven it to most Australian Corvette Conventions and hope to take it to the U.S. for 2009. I am a member of Vic Vettes (Chevrolet Car Club of Victoria), Corvettes Limited, Bowling Green Ky and the National Corvette Museum.

Co Captain John Smith. Also known as "The John Smith", John was a participant in the 2003 Australian Caravan. John has had involvement in the Australian drag racing scene for many years and is about to put his '74 on the road for the first time in Australia. John is also a member of Vic Vettes and the NCM.

Package Tour Outline
  • Arrive in NY on the 22nd August and be tourists in NY and Washington, DC.
  • Travel to Harrisburg, PA on the Thursday 27th.
  • Attend Carlisle Fri, Sat and Sun.
  • Return to our hotel to greet the NE Caravan as it arrives in Harrisburg on Sunday 30th.
  • The Caravan departs Monday morning to cruise the Pennsylvania Turnpike to Florence Indiana.
  • Tuesday is to be spent at local motorsport tracks for driving events. There will be a dinner dance on Tuesday night at the Belterra Resort.
  • Wednesday will see us arrive in Bowling Green and settle into our accomodation. Our Motel is across the road from the NCM so all events are walking distance.
  • Thursday to Saturday will be spent at the NCM partaking in the celebrations.
  • Tour members can then either depart from Nashville or spend some more time being tourists.

Our accommodation for the caravan and Bowling Green has been block booked. If you are interested in joining our tour, contact Phil at Jetset Ashburton (phil@jetsetashburton.com.au) or myself ASAP. Early in 2009 we will have to relinquish any rooms not confirmed with a deposit. We may still be able to take bookings after this time but cannot guarantee the same accommodation.
