>>OTHER CARAVAN MERCHANDISE ON THE WAY<<

The 2008 National Captain's meeting convened at the NCM on 25 April. During the meeting, National Caravan Chairperson "Admiral" Kathie Lin Summers announced that 09 Caravan static-cling decals and flags are in the final stages of design and will be available this Summer. The SoCal/SoNev Organizing Team is still developing its system by which decals and flags will be sold. When the details are worked out, you'll read it here, first.

In addition, Summers told the 20 Caravan Captains present at the meeting that, also under consideration is a "Caravan Participant" windshield "header" (or windshield "wrap" as some call them) but that the final decision on the availability of windshield headers is pending.

>>DEPARTURE EVENT at ONTARIO MARRIOTT<<

Southern California/Southern Nevada Section of the 2009 National Corvette Caravan has selected the Ontario Airport Marriott hotel as the location for the SoCal/SoNev Caravan's Departure Event on Friday, 28 August 2009.

Caravan Captain, Hib Halverson, tells the eNews, "Our Departure Event Group, 'Lieutenant' Elora Stidham, 'Commander' Brent Hicks and myself, learned several things from the 2003 Departure Event and that had us looking for a property which had food service for up to 600 people, enough rooms for all Caravanners, enough parking for 300 vehicles and was in close proximity to either Interstate 10 or 15. We had been considering a couple of locations in the Ontario area for our send-off which generally met those requirements."

"On April 22, we toured the Marriott facility and met with Director of Marketing, Denise Parsons, who made a very favorable proposal which would have the Marriott meeting all the Caravan's departure needs at a price we feel a vast majority of Caravanners will find reasonable. The decision really was a 'no-brainer'."

The tentative plan for the Departure Event which, at this point in time, 18 months before the Caravan, is obviously subject to change; is to have rooms available for check-in at 3PM on Friday afternoon. On Friday night there will be a dinner followed by a "Caravanner's Meeting" where, among other things, you'll meet your Caravan leaders, receive last minute information and be able to ask questions about the event. On Saturday morning, you'll get a "free" breakfast after which everyone who stayed overnight will depart for the California Speedway in nearby Fontana. We will have more information on the Departure Event plans as we get closer to the 09 Caravan date.

>>Remember! There WIll Be Two Rs<<

If you are reading this, there's a good chance you're registered for the SoCal/SoNev Section of the 2009 Caravan but, if you're not, now's the time!! Visit the Caravan web page at: http://www.corvettecaravan.com/ and read to the bottom.

The other "R" is registration for the Corvette Museum's 15th Anniversary Labor Day Celebration, the event that takes place starting 3 Sept. 2009, the day after our Caravan Section arrives at the NCM in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Registration for the 2009 Labor Day Celebration is currently not available because the 2008 Labor Day Celebration has yet to take place. For now, keep in mind that, eventually, anyone who is registered for the Caravan will have to also register for the 09 Labor Day event and registration for that event will open after the 08 Labor Day event takes place.

So, remember, the Two Rs are Registration for the Caravan and Registration for the Labor Day Celebration.

>>SoCal/SoNev Continues to Lead Registrations<<

On 5 May, the NCM released the latest 2009 Caravan registration information. The SCSN Section of the 09 Caravan continues to lead the nation in registrations with 93 cars and 167 caravanners.

Going on the Caravan? Don't go braless.
95% of new cars with less than 1,000 miles have paint blemishes from normal driving. Imagine what two years of street driving followed by a cross-country trip will do to YOUR paint. The solution? A "Clear Bra". It functions like a traditional auto bra but is far more durable. It will NOT scratch your Corvette's finish like most "strap-on" auto bras. This 3M Paint and Headlight Protection lasts for the life of your Vette.
