>>BE THE LEAD CAR TO BARSTOW<<

How would you like to lead the Southern California/Southern Nevada Section of the 2009 National Corvette Caravan?

Well...you can do just that, if you win the "Be the Lead Car to Barstow Raffle" to be held during the "Pomona Valley Corvette Association's Departure Night Soiree", on Friday night before we go. The raffle will benefit the SoCal/SoNev Organizing Team and the National Corvette Museum.

The holder of the winning ticket will get the front spot in the first staging lane at the Speedway right behind the California Highway Patrol unit which will escort us to Interstate 15 and ahead of the car driven by Caravan "Commander" Brent Hicks, the Organizing Team member who will ramrod the SCSN Section as far as Barstow.

The BLCB Raffle winner will have the memorable experience of leading about 200 Corvettes out of Auto Club Speedway's Lot 1 W, down that mile-long access road, onto San Bernardino Road, then onto I-15 headed for Barstow. The SCSN Team photographer, Sandy Halverson, will be snapping photos just as the cars make the turn on to San Bernardino Road and that image may appear on the Caravan web site the next day.

So...you want to be the Lead Car to Barstow? Make sure you attend the Departure Night event.

>>WADAWE DO, ONCE WE GET THERE?<<

Even though Caravan Section arrivals are spread over two days, there's a potential big traffic tie-up, once our four Sections, SoCal/SoNev, OK/TXPan, CenTX and AR/W-TN arrive at the Corvette Museum exit off I-65 N. To reduce the impact of that, local law enforcement will be handling traffic control so, obviously, follow their directions.

Beyond that, know that the Museum's plans for Caravan Sections such as ours which arrive on northbound I-65 is for us to make a left onto Corvette Drive and proceed around to the Museum's new Gate C entrance, drive past the new Corvette Cafe, around the new Logo Circle, where a videographer will be recording the entire arrival, then make a left back onto the main driveway which will take you across the front of the Museum and either to parking on the grounds, if it is still available, or out Gate D, at the rear of the property, where you will turn right onto Corvette Drive then right, again, onto Porter Pike. From there you'll drive to one of the nearby satellite lots which are said to all have continuous shuttle service to the NCM.

Everyone should follow this route . It will not only get us off the interstate more quickly and safely, but will also keep us together for video being taped.

We know all of you would like more information about the locations of the satellite parking facilities, but the National Corvette Museum was unable to make that information available by our deadline. If we receive more information before Friday, we'll issue another eNews containing it.

>>SCSN/RED LINE OIL T-SHIRT<<

The SoCal/SoNev Organizing Team and the Red Line Synthetic Oil Corporation have gotten together to make a unique, T-shirt commemorating the SCSN Caravan for 2009. This shirt is not issued or sold by the National Corvette Museum. It is available only to SoCal/SoNev Caravaners. The shirt is simple and to-the-point... light gray, with the unique SoCal/SoNev Caravan 09 logo on the front and the famed Red Line Oil logo on the back. Each car registered for SoCal/SoNev gets two free shirts. You'll receive them on Friday night when you check-in at the PVCA Departure Night Soiree.

We have a limited number of extra SCSN/Red Line Shirts which will be sold at the Departure Night Event for $8.00 each. The proceeds from this sale will go towards paying the Organizing Team's expenses and will be part of cash donation to NCM. So, if you want more than one T-shirt from the SoCal/SoNev Caravan, bring us eight bucks on Friday.

Section Captain, Hib Halverson, asks that you wear your Red Line Shirts on Monday, the third day of the trip and, if you buy an extra, wear it during the Labor Day Celebration, after you get to the Museum.

>>FIVE DAYS AND WE'RE OUTA HERE!<<

Ok people...you've got five days left to finish getting your car ready, buy some bottled water, get a bigger memory card for your digital Nikon, finish packing, then get yourselves to Ontario Friday evening for the "PVCA Departure Night party Soiree." The next morning, at the Auto Club Speedway, we begin the five-day journey to Bowling Green which we've been talking about here for two and a half years.

It's gonna be great!

Thanks for reading.

Best regards,
The SoCal/SoNev Caravan Organizing Team

Going on the Caravan?
Don't go braless!

Even new cars with less than 1,000 miles have paint blemishes from normal driving. Imagine what a cross-country trip will do to YOUR paint.

The solution? A "Clear Bra".

It functions like a traditional auto bra but is far more durable and cannot be seen. It will NOT scratch your Corvette's finish like most "strap-on" auto bras. This 3M Paint and Headlight Protection lasts for the life of your Vette. SCSN Capt. Hib Halverson used a 3M Clear Bra on the 2003 National Corvette Caravan and endorses it as the best way to avoid damage to the front of your car.
